Hancock County Solid Waste Authority
Although the Hancock County Solid Waste Authority is not directly affiliated with the Hancock County Commission, two members of the Authority are appointed by the Commission. In addition, the Commission provides periodic financial assistance for various Authority programs, for which the Authority is most appreciative and grateful.
The Hancock Co. Recycle and Convenience Center accepts recyclables, scrap metal, used paint and oils, discarded electronics and household junk. The Center is open to Hancock Co. residents with a valid photo ID. Any resident wishing to dispose of allowable materials must also provide a valid trash collection receipt for materials to be accepted. Household garbage and any excessive amounts of material delivered in dump trucks and/or large trailers or multiple loads will not be accepted.
A video surveillance system is used to assist with the prosecution of any person who leaves material at or near the sight when it is not open for business.
The Center is a good option for recycling most materials that residents would normally discard and a useful and convenient choice for getting rid of hard to dispose of items. Donations are accepted to offset the costs for materials brought to the facility that require disposal.
