The Hancock County Solid Waste Authority has opened its Recycling and Convenience Center.
In addition to recyclables, the Center will also accept household junk, scrap metal, used paints and oils, and discarded electronics as outlined below. There is no charge for using the Center, however donations are accepted to help offset the costs for materials brought to the facility that require disposal. In addition, any resident wishing to dispose of allowable materials must provide a valid trash receipt for materials to be accepted. Household garbage and any material delivered in dump trucks and large trailers will not be accepted.
A video surveillance system has been installed at the Center and will be used to assist with the prosecution of any person that leaves any material at or near the site when it is not open.
The center is open to Hancock County residents only and requires a waste disposal/garbage bill receipt to be shown upon entry.
Hopefully, Hancock County residents will find the Center a good option for recycling most of the materials that they would normally discard in their trash. In addition, with the Center being open every Saturday, residents should find the facility a useful and convenient choice for getting rid of hard to dispose of items.
